Tilak Mahavidyalay Library

Tilak Mahavidyalay Library was inaugurated on 5th July 1973 by the Vice-Chancellor of Kanpur University, Shri Bhakt Darshan. The library connects the user to its relevant information resources. It serves as an innovative partner in teaching, learning, and research activities.

The library consists of 2 separate reading rooms for girls and boys which can accommodate about 100 users each. It has a rich and diverse collection of about 77888 books, with 40837 in Book-Bank, 32111 in Maintenance and 4940 in Self-Finance section, respectively.

The 3 sections include a variety of books covering domains like - Biotech, Computer Science, English, Hindi, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Political Science, Biological Science, Education, Geography, Zoology, Sociology, English Literature, Hindi Literature, Commerce, Economics, Physical Education, and many more.

The library also preserves and archives the internal (faculty and students) publications and institutional events records for posterity and further dissemination.

Library remains open as follows

Rules for Issue, Return and Maintenance of Books
1. Before leaving the counter, the member should satisfy himself/herself as to whether the book lent to him/her is in sound condition and if not, (s)he shall immediately bring the matter to the notice of the Librarian otherwise (s)he is liable to be held responsible for any loss/damage and would be required to replace it with a sound/fresh copy.
2. Periodicals, directories, encyclopedias, which might be difficult to replace and other such works as may be declared reference books by the Librarian shall not be lent out.
3. Members are not allowed to sub-lend the books of the library.
4. Books are issued for a period of 14 days. Books from the Book-Bank section require 10% of the book's price as a deposit while issuing.
5. Any infringement of the rules will deprive the member of the privilege of admission to and of borrowing books from the library.
6. The Library membership will be valid till the student leaves the college.

Discipline and Decorum in the Library
1. The user/members shall maintain perfect silence in the library reading halls. Talking loudly, gossiping, chatting, etc. is strictly prohibited.
2. Running, pushing, passing gestures, and teasing are strictly prohibited.
3. Eatables and soft drinks are not allowed in the library.
4. Use of mobile phones is prohibited in the library. Mobile phones should be kept under silent mode in the library.
5. Marking, underlining, doodling, or defacing any Books, Newspapers, Magazines, etc. of the library prohibited.
6. Carrying any book, published material or any property of the library outside the library without proper issue or authorization shall be deemed as gross indiscipline.
7. Defacing, damaging, and mishandling the property of the library shall be deemed as gross indiscipline.
Non-compliance or breaching the rules of Discipline and decorum in the library shall attract disciplinary action and fine or cancellation of membership or both.
